Investigation of High Voltage Circuit Breaker by Mathematical Modelling of Arc Behaviour

Circuit breaker is an essential component for power system protection. Mathematical models of arc help analyze arc behaviour by which interruption process of circuit breaker can be understood. This paper aims at investigating the current interruption process in circuit breaker by considering Mayr and Schwarz arc models. Effect on arc voltage and post arc current with the variation of cooling power and time constant parameters in Mayr arc model is described in this paper. Method to derive parameters of Schwarz arc model is presented in this paper. Comparison of Mayr arc model and Schwarz arc model is shown.
