Study of Influence of Absorbing Material on Parameters of Line with Losses

In this paper, the idea of a film attenuator made on a microstrip line for X-band is considered. A research was carried out for an analytical expression that allows finding the attenuator attenuation value for given characteristics of the absorbing material, the microstrip line substrate and the length of the line with the absorbing material. Attenuators with various lengths and parameters of the absorbing material to estimate the correctness of the obtained analytical expression were simulated. A method for calculating the effective dielectric constant for a microstrip line on which an absorbing material is applied is found. The effect of the width of the absorbing material on the matching, attenuation is estimated. A family of dependences of the wave impedance of the microstrip line on the ratio of the line width to the thickness of the substrate is constructed for different ratios of the relative permittivity of the absorbing material to the relative permittivity of the substrate.
