600-GHz-Band Heterodyne Receiver System Using Photonic Techniques

We present a 600-GHz-band heterodyne receiver system introducing photonic techniques. We have solved a problem of intermediate-frequency (IF) signal leak in the conventional receiver using a Schottky-barrier-diode by introducing the optical up-conversion and filtering. As a result, the error-free data rate has been updated to 14.5 Gbit/s, which is the highest value ever reported in the 600-GHz-band.
