IEEE 802.15.10 Based Data Concatenation Function Application for Effective Frame Forwarding in the Wireless SUN Systems

In this paper, effective data frame forwarding and collection operations based on the IEEE 802.15.10 recommended practice specifications are proposed where data frame collisions are drastically decreased by employing the data concatenation function. The proposed function is assumed to effectively employ the existing wireless Smart Utility Network (SUN) that is standardized by IEEE 802.15.4g/4e task groups and is certified by Wi-SUN alliance. In the paper, Medium Access Control (MAC) layer functions that is mainly defined by IEEE 802.15.4e standard and IEEE 802.15.10 recommended practice are effectively deployed according to the future IoT services that especially requires automatic and autonomous harmonization operations among many radio devices defined as the high-capacity data collection networks. In order to realize such harmonized mesh activities by massive radio device cooperation, SUN radio devices that exploit Layer 2 Routing (L2R) control scheme in IEEE 802.15.10 are employed to realize the autonomous mesh management with data concatenation functions to achieve the effective data forwarding and collection operations in its Personal Area Network (PAN). The performances for the proposed employment of the data concatenation functions are evaluated through the experiments by employing the developed L2R devices over SUN systems. Consequently, this paper confirms that employment of the IEEE 802.15.10 based data concatenation function effectively improves data frame success rate performances about 30% compared with the L2R operations without data concatenation.
