Multi-camera Object Localization in Intelligent Transportation Systems

With growing human population and rapid urbanization the traffic infrastructure is becoming less efficient, causing decrease in road safety. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are increasingly evolving with the aim of relieving traffic congestion, reducing journey times and improving travel safety. In this paper we are presenting a multi-camera system, which can be used as an integral part of an ITS, as well as the method for localizing both vehicles and vulnerable road users (VRU) on a map projection, using this infrastructure. Furthermore, we evaluate localization results and discuss possible future improvements.
