A Compatibility Testing of Using Pure DME as a Replacement of LPG for Gas Stoves

This paper presents the compatibility of pure DME application on the existing single burner LPG stoves distributed in the Indonesian market. The performance of the gas stoves when fueled by LPG and pure DME will be compared. The parameters used for the compatibility analysis include heat input, gas consumption, thermal efficiency, and boiling time. The heat input and efficiency of the gas stove were determined according to SNI 8660:2018 with calorific values adjusted for each gas. The result shows that some gas stoves designed for the use of LPG fuel can also operate when using DME fuel. At the same gas input pressure, there is a change in the performance of the gas stove due to the difference in calorific value between the two fuels. Although the efficiency value of the gas stove produced is not significantly different, but the stove using DME fuel takes longer to boil water than when using LPG fuel.
