A practical implementation for an instrument to measure displacement of pendulum wire

An optical measuring device was developed in order to measure pendulum displacement in dam monitoring. A low cost solution was sought while maintaining the accuracy of the instrument at the current standards. The selection of the components, the assembly and the functioning of the instrument are explained. The results of the measurements are discussed.
