Implementation of VFD Application for Speed Control of Induction Motor

Induction motors are used in numerous industrial applications due to the characteristics and robustness. The performance of these motors matches with requirements of industrial applications. The major issue in designing the system with induction motors is matching with the torque and speed requirement. Several researchers have worked on the torque control method and suggested it control the speed of a motor in the early nineties. On the other hand, another approach is to control the speed of the motor with constant torque. The speed of the motor is proportional to the frequency and it provides the control over a wide range of speed right from low to high speed. In all rotary machine applications, speed is a very important parameter to control. Authors have implemented the control of induction motor using Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) and the results for working of the system with a reduction in power consumption are presented in this paper. The modulation technique for the pulse width of the voltage is used to control the input voltage of the motor through an inverter.
