Study of Surface Finish and Cutting fluid Temperature by Turning with MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) and It’s comparison with Flooded and Dry Turning

To protect the Environment we have to reduce the use of coolant in operations of metal cutting. MQL is an alternative method which can help to reduce the pollution related with coolant. In this study a nozzle is provided near the cutting areas at with very low speed during turning of hardened steel. This work studies the Importance of Spindle Speed, Feed Rate and DOC (Depth of cut) of D2 material at the time of turning on CNC machine & TNMG Inserts so as to predict the surface roughness and Coolant Temperature by Using Taguchi Method. In this study Average temperature of coolant can be calculate at the time of MQL Turning. The material to be used for the experiment is of D2 grade steel (High-carbon, high-chromium) which has good abrasion and wear resistant properties having hardness ranges from 5562 HRC and TNMG inserts are used. The output parameters which are used to measure is surface roughness and coolant temperature and the results have been compared to find out the best method i.e., Dry turning, Wet turning or turning by using the Minimum Quantity Lubrication.
