Reactive Power Compensation using Shunt Capacitors for Transmission Line Loaded Above Surge Impedance

This paper explores the method of reactive power compensation using shunt capacitors for two cases. The first case involves a load fairly close to the AC source. The shunt capacitors are injected into the circuit by a logic circuit which uses the reactive power absorbed by the load, which are inductive in nature, as its input. The second case consists of a line loaded above its surge impedance. The shunt capacitors are injected into the circuit at different time intervals and the effect on the system are observed. The simulation is carried out in MATLAB/ Simulink environment.
