DIVSYS: Design and Implementation of VHF Messaging System Using Amateur Radio Frequency of 144 MHz Band

The issue of typhoon and natural disaster is the sudden wide-scale breakdown or interruption of communications infrastructure. When public communication network fails, the impact can be widely felt and has the ability to wipe out access to standard mobile or landline telecommunication even internet access for emergency communication devices. The researchers intend to aid the communication when a large breakdown or interruption happen by a prototype consist of a simple walkie-talkie operating at a frequency of 144MHz bands and a personal computer. This research also adopts the concept of SSTV which exchanges pictures from one Amateur radio to another. Amateur radio is a scientific activity also known as “Ham Radio”. With this we can operate on a two-way communication using radio transmitter, receivers, antennae that can be either through the use of messaging with text and images that needs to be sent during disaster response. Both prototypes had clear outputs and was received and transmitted easily. Prototype 2 however, showed better image quality and less interference than prototype 1. The PC application makes the system much easier to use because the application was designed to be user-friendly and helped the user to understand the technical aspects of the system.
