Self-sufficient Power Generation using Solar and Wind Hybrid System

This paper is aimed to resolve electricity issues of rural areas using standalone integrated system of wind turbine and solar module in cost effective and efficient way. A virtual model is built in Solidworks based on calculations and simulation and power output is derived using Matlab Simulink. The hybrid system presented in this paper is based on solar tracking technology and utilizes inexpensive wind turbine having HDPE tarpaulin blade for generation of electricity. This study applies model based design thinking methodology to the conceptualization process of proposed integrated system of wind turbine and solar module which will save up space whereas a normal hybrid system occupies more space when installed separately. Main objective of this paper is to make electricity available for everyone at minimum cost. Implementation of this system will aid in gaining more energy security for rural regions along with balancing the 3E's of sustainability, the economy and social equity.
