Flicker-Free 100-W Class LED Driver With an Active Buffer Circuit

This paper proposes a flicker free 100-W class light-emitting diode (LED) driver with an active buffer circuit. The conventional LED drivers have been used electrolytic capacitor for reducing flicker which is caused by the LED current ripple. An active buffer circuit is used for the volume reduction and long lifetime in this paper. The proposed LED driver is added a switching device to a conventional active buffer circuit for the overcurrent prevention in low LED current operation. Flicker causes medical problem such as dizziness and headache. In the proposed LED driver, the overcurrent suppression control is used to reduce flicker. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed LED driver can satisfy flicker regulation of IEEE 1789-2015 in the dimming range from 5% of the rated LED current.
