Effect of Motor Structure on Loss and Modal Frequency of High-speed Switched Reluctance Motor with Amorphous Alloy Core

High-speed switched reluctance motors (SRM) have been used in electric vehicles because of high power density and low cost. Furtherly, the rotor strength is very high without permanent magnets. Precisely because of the lack of permanent magnets, the power density needs to be increased by increasing the speed. However, the salient pole rotor structure has a great effect on motor loss and vibration, especially at high speeds. Loss of amorphous alloy core is related to the core dimension and rotor structure could even limit the speed of the motor. In order to improve the overall performance of high-speed switched reluctance motor with amorphous alloy core, different motor structures will be compared and analyzed. In addition, a new calculation method for wind friction loss will be proposed, and effects of different rotor structures on losses and modal will be compared in this paper.
