A Novel Variable Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with Separately Excited Field Winding

This paper presents a novel variable flux motor with separately excited field winding. To reduce the copper loss caused by weakening current especially in high speed condition, field winding is included in rotor of the proposed motor. In addition to that, brush and slip ring are used for electric power supply to field coil. To estimate the loss reduction of the proposed motor, weakening current loss is calculated by using finite element method. Moreover validate of the analysis accuracy is confirmed with comparison results between calculation and experimental results.
