Design and Experimental Studies on HEFSM Employing Two Types of Permanent Magnets per Pole as Traction Motor for Automobile Applications

In this paper, design and experimental studies on a hybrid excitation flux switching motor (HEFSM) are presented. The motor with a piece of permanent magnet per pole being comprised of two different types of permanent magnets is employed for protecting its demagnetization un-der high temperature and heavy load situation as well as better motor efficiency. One is with high residual flux density and low coercive force for the purpose of reduction the copper loss. The other is with relatively low flux density and high coercive force, by which the demagnetization is mitigated. Finite element analysis- and experimental test-based performance evaluations validate that the designed motor achieves better motor efficiency while satisfying the target specifications required for automotive traction drive applications.
