Agent-based simulation for COVID-19 outbreak within a semi-closed environment

of May 2020, 5,488,825 confirmed cases were recorded with positive COVID-19 around the world. Additionally, around 349,095 death cases are listed from all countries. These days, the world is facing an enormous challenge with the spread of the coronavirus virus. COVID-19 outbreak is not only affecting the health sector but also impacting countries, economies, and communities. Moreover, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that studies show similarities between the way COVID-19 spreads and the Influenza spreading mechanism. This paper explores the current studies of Influenza spreading simulations, and tries to reflect on coronavirus to answer three questions related to the number of infected individuals from the outbreak. The paper used NetLogo, a tool and selected epiDEM Travel and Control model considering the configurations related to COVID-19. Results show that travel, mobility, and individuals isolation have a positive impact on reducing the number of infected people and containing the impact of the outbreak within a semi-closed environment.
