Computing the Caloric Expenditure During Kick Scooter Activity

Globally, obesity is the fifth leading cause of death, and 2.8 million adults die each year from overweight. Using the scooter as an alternative means of intra-urban transport can prevent obesity, as it is an excellent way to consume excess caloric energy intake in the human body, which would otherwise have been stored as adipose tissue. Currently, there is no device or method for calculating the caloric expenditure during a kick scooter session, which is why in this paper we aimed to develop both an affordable device and a particular method for measuring caloric energy consumed as a result of this physical activity. At the same time, we have shown that current calorie calculation methods, including a Fitbit smartwatch, do not provide realistic estimates of caloric expenditure during kick scooter exercising, which underestimates the true value.
