Influence of Internal Structure on Dielectric Breakdown Characteristics of Additive Manufacturing Parts Formed by Selective Laser Sintering

Additive manufacturing (AM) can be used to easily design and create parts with complex shapes, and hence, it is used in various fields. Recently, AM parts have been developed as not only prototypes but also practical components. Therefore, it is very important to understand the characteristics of these parts. For example, it is important to understand the insulation characteristics of AM-based insulation components. However, these insulation characteristics have not been sufficiently investigated. In this study, we examined the dielectric breakdown characteristics of AM samples manufactured by selective laser sintering (SLS) while considering the effects of the part build orientation of the samples. In addition, we observed the cross section of the samples after dielectric breakdown and studied the void condition and dielectric breakdown path. The void distribution state was also investigated by determining the apparent relative permittivity. From the above experiments, the points to note when applying AM components manufactured by SLS to insulating components became clear.
