On-Line Identification of Synchronous Generator Inertia Constant

The authors of the paper develop the idea that introduction of identification of network elements parameters in operational modes increases the degree of control system intelligence for the electric network mode. This results in getting up-to-date information about the power system, that allows creating a set of control actions produced by the automation system according to the operating situation. The subject of the research is studying the methods for identifying the inertia constant of synchronous generators. This parameter significantly affects the nature of the electromechanical transient process. The paper presents the results of evaluating the inertia of a synchronous generator rotor during electromechanical transient process by using two methods. The proposed methods use waveforms of three-phase power, angle and speed of the generator rotor. The research was carried out using digital modeling in Matlab Simulink and a physical experiment on a model generator.
