Improving the Efficiency of the Information-Measuring System Based on the Assessment of the Refractive Properties of the Atmosphere

The paper considers mathematical models with the help of which it is possible to calculate the errors arising in the measuring systems when the probe signal passes through the atmosphere layer, taking into account the influence of the atmospheric refractive index. When carrying out such calculations, the distance to the observed object, meteorological data on air temperature and humidity, atmospheric pressure, and the wavelength of the sounding signal are used as the initial data. Carrying out calculations according to the mathematical models considered in the work allows you to correct the results obtained. However, in a number of models, averaged characteristics are used as the initial data on the value of the refractive index, which is not entirely correct. Using the example of the passage of an optical signal in the lower part of the surface layer of the atmosphere on an inclined path, it is shown that, in really changing weather conditions, the use of averaged characteristics of the atmospheric refractive index does not fully describe the behavior of the arising errors. The results obtained confirm the need to use the actual data on the refractive index of the atmosphere in the calculations of errors. The use of information on the actual state of the refractive index of the atmosphere will improve the efficiency of the measuring system.
