Analysis and Design of Multi-Pole High-Speed IPMSM with SiC Based Inverters for EVs

To investigate the performance potentials of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) under the control of SiC-based inverters (SiC-INV), this paper analyzes and dezsigns multi-pole and high speed IPMSM (HS-IPMSM) for electric vehicle (EV) applications. Firstly, the range of the pole numbers and speed boundary of IPMSM under high switching frequency SiC-INV is discussed by introducing the carrier-fundamental ratio and the current ripple coefficient. Secondly, six machines with different slot/pole combinations are designed, namely three machines with integer slot distributed winding (ISDW) and three machines with fractional slot concentrated winding (FSCW). Finally, the main dimensions, material use, d-q axis inductances, cogging torques, torque speed characteristics and efficiency maps are compared and analyzed. Some electromagnetic design principles of multi-pole HS-IPMSM driven by SiC-INV are given.
