An Analytical Approach for Extraction of the Temperature Bias-Error of RTD Sensors for Smart Home

Sensors, are key devices in a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, especially in today Smart Home applications. Among the variety of sensors, the Temperature Sensors, play an important role related to the energy saving modules and systems. Faults occur in the sensors, which can cause some problems in the system, such as excessive energy usage, discomfort to occupants, and inappropriate indoor air quality. The faults of sensors can be categorized into four groups including fixed bias, drifting bias, precision degradation, and complete failure. This paper presents a novel analytical approach to extract fixed temperature bias error, called bias error of a temperature sensor, by considering parameters leading to the temperature error, including self-heating, lead resistances mismatch, current sources mismatch, and leakage current. According to our simulation results, the value of the bias error for the best and worst case is 0.7592°C and 2.009°C, respectively. Therefore, the bias error has a considerable value that cannot be neglected.
