Novel structure configuration of a fluorescent imaging filters realized on TiO2/SiO2 layers

This research introduces a novel filter configuration for fluorescent imaging applications. Three filters are included in the filter set: one excitation, one emission and one dichroic filter. The filters are DBR filters that consist of TiO
₂
/SiO
₂
alternating thin layers. As a synthesis method, a needle technique was introduced to maximize the filter's spectral characteristics by varying the appropriate number of layers with thickness regulation. The filters are designed to refine the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the fluorescent emission from FITC 488 dye. The findings obtained in this paper suggest that the refined filters provide advanced spectral efficiency that can be employed in fluorescence microscopy to advance the sensitivity and the imaging contrast.
