EMI Effects on Electrical Parameters in Fiber Optic Converters for LIN (Local Interconnect Network) Communication

When conducting EMI tests for products using LIN (Local Interconnect Network) communication which is one of the vehicle's communication methods, test results frequently show variation, which is especially concerning during inter-laboratory tests. The first reason for this problem is the difference among the F.O. (Fiber Optic) converters used by each laboratory, because each F.O. converter has different parameters inside. Due to the difference in values of capacitors installed in each F.O. converter, the voltage slew rate in the communication line and the current level on the power lines change, and as a result not only effect the conducted emissions voltage method results, but also the conducted emissions current method results change as well. In addition to conducted emissions variations, the differences in the slew rate of the switching voltage also cause variations in the radiated emissions results. In this paper, the EMI effects due to F.O. converters using different parameters for LIN communication were analyzed.
