Saur Sikka: An IoT based Prototype of Basic Solar Power Trading Platform for Independent Distributed Nano-Grids

Renewable energy has the potential to lead humanity into a greener, more sustainable future. In this perspective, a system has been developed to help homes for performing effective management of power consumption and provision on demand supply of surplus energy to the societies powered by renewable energy sources. A low-cost prototype of Peer-to-Peer Solar Energy trading platform called “Saur Sikka” is created. It enables users, who use their own Solar Energy harvesters with an opportunity to encash on the surplus energy. This paper presents a concept for the implementation of Peer-to-Peer energy network based on the circuit-switching framework. The proposed system also provides users with the ability to track and sell energy remotely using IoT architecture and cloud computing. It was observed that, the proposed system works effectively in the prototype setting, and it can be used to test the effects of real energy trading in a life scale model. The prototype serves as an effective guide to help us understand the complexities in building a Peer-to-Peer solar trading network.
