A Cloud-Based Platform for Service Restoration in Active Distribution Grids

In modern distribution grids, accessing the growing amount of data from various sources, running complex algorithms on-demand, and controlling sparse actuators represent important requirements. These can be achieved with on-demand scalability to support fluctuating workloads. A possibility to provide on-demand scalability is cloud computing. This paper presents a cloud-based platform that analyzes power distribution grids data and deploys a service restoration application for the re-energization of loads after electrical faults. The implementation of this study is powered by FIWARE, which is based on open-source and customizable building blocks of future internet applications and services. The feasibility of the service restoration application is evaluated through analysis of its network latency and computation time in different test cases.
