Direct Voltage Controller for SRMs in Achieving Torque Ripple Minimization over Wide Speed Range

This study introduces a novel DC/AC inverter architecture which enables to control the phase voltages to produce the required flux linkage for the optimized operation. The control is enabled by use of wide band-gap power devices along with a direct voltage control method to drive SRMs. The proposed architecture is able to track the reference voltages applied to SRM over a wide speed operating range. The SRM and the new inverter architecture along with the controller is modelled and simulated based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) model of the electric machine. The results demonstrated that, the proposed inverter and the control achieves very smooth torque production for SRMs over a wide speed range of operation.
