Integration of Solar Power into Electric Grid based on Voltage at Critical Contingency

The high rate expansion of distribution network energy demand poses challenging tasks in system stability operations to conventional electric grid utilities. At present, the conventional grid is at good pace in transforming into smart electric grid with distribution generation i.e. solar/wind power. The integration of distribution generations can be capable to provide solutions to these challenges in the context of conventional grid transition towards smart grid. In this paper, a Photovoltaic Integration Index (PV II) is proposed to determine the favorable system buses for photovoltaic (Solar) power integration in conventional power system. The voltage stability analysis has been investigated by integrating large scale photovoltaic generation into IEEE 39-bus test system using Siemens PSS/E software. A test case study has been carried on IEEE 39-bus system to prove the validity of proposed PV II. Furthermore, the optimal placement of photovoltaic plants at the load buses in the distribution network can provide a significant support during load demand and temporary system instability modes. The proposed PV II based integration procedure can be a feasible methodology during future expansion of photovoltaic/other distributed energy integration in smart electric grids.
