A Compact Modified Octagonal Microstrip Patch Antenna for Bandwidth Enchanchment and Harmonic Supression

In this paper, a compact octagonal microstrip patch antenna is presented. The antenna has been proposed for both Bandwidth enhancement and Harmonic suppression with U-slot defected ground structure (DGS). It has a dimension of 60×54×1.57 mm

and is employed on the Rogers Duroid 5870 substrate. A patch antenna which has octagonal parasitic element is designed where the bandwidth is 9.2 times wider than reference antenna-1 and 6.3 times wider than reference antenna-2. Moreover, the proposed antenna bandwidth is also 25.3 times wider than traditional antenna. It operates at C-band which is used in Wireless communication, weather Rader system and in ISM band application.
