Economic analysis of a wind supercharging solar chimney power plant combined with thermal plant for power and freshwater generation

In this article, a mathematical model of income analysis and cost analysis of WSCPPDW (a wind supercharging solar chimney power plant combined with seawater desalination and waste heat) and SCPPDW (a solar chimney power plant combined with seawater desalination and waste heat) is established. Based on the risk adjusted discount rate method, the economics of SCPPDW and WSCPPDW are analyzed. It is found that the total net profit and the total net present value (TNPV) of the integrated systems are significantly increased by adding a wind supercharger on the top of the chimney. With the increase of working hours, the annual net income of the two integrated systems both show an increasing trend. The annual net present values (NPV) of SCPPDW and WSCPPDW both firstly increase and then decrease and reach their maximum values in the 15th and 11th years, respectively. The annual net income and annual NPV of WSCPPDW are always greater than those of SCPPDW. The annual net income and annual NPV of SCPPDW are negative in the first four years when the system starts to work, and the annual net income and annual NPV of WSCPPDW with wind supercharger are negative in the first year when the system starts to work, which are greater than zero in the remaining service period.
