Coordinated Control Strategy of Concentrating Solar Power Plant for Power System Frequency Regulation

As renewable energy penetration increases in power grid, new challenge arises in frequency regulation. Concentrating solar power plant (CSP) is developing rapidly and becomes a promising alternative to provide auxiliary services including frequency support. This paper analyzes the frequency regulation ability of the CSP. A dynamic CSP model for frequency regulation analysis is built which decouples the solar-thermal energy conversion and thermal-electricity energy conversion process. A coordinated control strategy of CSP is proposed to improve the system frequency response considering the state of thermal energy storage system. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed controller.
