A Circularly Polarized Patch Antenna Array

In this paper, a two-layer circularly polarized (CP) patch antenna array operating at X-band is presented. The proposed CP antenna element is composed of a corner-truncated rectangular radiating patch at the lower PCB and an air-coupled parasitic corner-truncated rectangular patch at the higher PCB. 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth and impedance bandwidth have been enhanced simultaneously by adding the parasitic patch. A 4×4 array is designed based on the proposed antenna element. Simulated results show that the proposed CP antenna array is suitable for the X-band radar communication applications.
