Measurement and Analysis of Impulsive Noise in Vehicular Power Lines

To transmit information and control signals in cars, dedicated lines are currently used. In recent years, VPLC (Vehicle Power Line Communication) has been considered as an alternative communication method. In this case, the VPLC modems exchange data via the vehicle's power lines and use, as a rule, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Such devices have a high cost and therefore are not widely used in automobiles. On the other hand, VPLC technology has long been used in electronic relays for car alarms. The cost of such relays should not exceed a few dollars, which excludes the use of OFDM. A cheap alternative is direct digital transmission, in which the signal is transmitted through the wiring in short pulses. The signal receiver must decode the useful signal against the background of impulse noise in the wiring. The paper presents experimental data on the study of pulsed noise, and considers their influence on the reception of a useful signal.
