Simulation of Gas Turbine Power Plants with Voltage and Speed Prognostic Regulators

The article provides results of computer-based research dedicated to dynamic models development of low-power two-shaft gas turbines equipped with automatic voltage and speed regulators having prognostic links. When gas turbine plants (GTP) are used in isolated power supply systems, frequency and voltage deviations can be insignificant which adversely affects power quality indices. Regulators adjustment of GTP being commissioned requires complex design calculations. Using prognostic algorithms allowing the classical regulators perfection with minimal costs contributes to their efficient adjustment. The prognostic algorithms can be referred to ones enabling the system automatic control based on one parameter - forecast time. This is especially urgent when it is necessary to commission a GTP within tight deadlines. The models represented in the article, were implemented using Simulink package of MATLAB system. Therefore, prognostic algorithms influence on voltage and rotational speed control quality of GTP generator was studied in the modes of load connection and shedding. The computer modeling results allowed to make the following conclusions: the use of prognostic regulators when connecting an additional powerful load to GTP, allows to remove oscillability, reduce voltage dips, and transient time by 2.5 s; an abrupt load shedding allows to completely remove oscillability, reduce overshoot of rotor rotational speed and overvoltage on generator terminals due to the application of prognostic algorithms, and to significantly reduce transient time duration for speed in comparison with classical regulators; the use of prognostic algorithms allows to obtain acceptable quality factors for transients without using complicated procedures of regulators adjustment.
