Designing Large-Scale Metasurfaces with Parameterized Adjoint Optimization

We present the details of a metasurface design method based on adjoint optimization and finite-difference time-domain simulation. Instead of meta-atom topology, our method optimizes parameterized meta-atoms that can be readily fabricated. As proof-of-concept, we design large, high-efficiency metalenses which outperform conventionally designed counterparts.
