Grid Connected Photovoltaic Systems with Multilevel Inverter

Sun is a source of light since the dawn of civilization and researches has proven its promising and bright future as an alternative option to the most important conventional source of energy such as coal, gas and petroleum, which are getting depleted at an escalated rate. All around the globe researches are going on emerging environment-friendly renewable energy (RE) technologies. In this paper, a photovoltaic (PV) system of 100 kW rating is modeled in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. Performance of the PV system along with adequate power electronic converter with AC load in standalone mode is analyzed and presented in the present work under changing environmental conditions. Incremental Conductance (IC) algorithm based maximum power point tracking has been adopted for maximum utilization of the studied PV system under different illuminations & panel temperatures. The present work also proposes the photovoltaic generation model in a grid-tied mode where the power is supplied to the isolated individual load and the inverter is usually controlled by a current mode control to deliver a sinusoidal voltage for the load.
