A Study of Various Techniques to Reduce Mutual Coupling in MIMO Antennas

Today's wireless communication system applications demand higher channel bandwidth and data rate and MIMO gives a way for the fulfillment of all these. There is a large scope for the researcher to upgrade and evaluate performances of MIMO antenna on the basis of coupling between inter elements, gain, diversity gain, efficiency, ECC, bandwidth, MEG, channel capacity, TARC etc. The MIMO antenna performance along with mutual coupling gets degraded and results in poor spectral regrowth. The researcher gives various techniques to reduce the separation distance between the adjacent antennas in MIMO, where size is a big concern for portable devices. Detailed review on the various techniques for diminishing the mutual coupling which leads to boost the isolation between multiple radiators of MIMO is presented in this paper. Few prominent mutual coupling reduction methods to improve the performance of MIMO antennas are discussed along with their pros n cons.
