Index Modulation using Polarization Diversity based Antenna Indexing

In this paper, we propose the use of polarization diversity based antenna indexing scheme for encoding the information bits without requirement of any additional bandwidth. Two antennas having orthogonal polarization, namely left and right handed circular polarization, are used to transmit the conventionally modulated data. Selection of active antenna for transmission is done using the additional information bit stream, thereby having single radio-frequency (RF) chain active at a particular instance. Information bit streams used for antenna selection can be recovered by detecting the active antenna at the receiver. The paper describes the overall system including transmitter and receiver chains that substantiates the applicability of the proposed scheme for data transmission.
