Study on Optimization of Stop Schedule Plan for Urban Rail Transit: A Case Study of Shanghai Metro Line 2

We took Shanghai Metro Line 2 as an example to analyze the impact of the implementation of fast-and-slow-line operation scheme on the efficiency of Metro operation. First of all, in order to measure the operation efficiency of the train, this paper adopts three indicators: average time, maximum bearing capacity as well as construction cost. Secondly, in order to analyze the time saved when the fast lines does not stop at the station, we divided the train operation process into four stages: acceleration, uniform speed, deceleration and rest. We first carried out an exploratory study. Then we used MATLAB software to simulate the time needed for the fast and slow lines system to complete the whole journey respectively. The result shows that the time for the fast lines could be reduced by 23 min under the same high speed. In determining the stations for the fast lines to stop, we took the minimum average travel time of passengers as the goal, the passenger flow of each platform and the starting station as constraints to build a 0-1 optimization model. Then we calculated the best platforms for fast lines to stop by the violent search algorithm, and adjusted the stop station slightly according to the actual situation of passenger transfer, so as to make the final scheme for fast lines to stop. In addition, we also carried out sensitivity analysis on the operation efficiency. The result showed that the fasts and slow lines system with different speeds had the highest operating efficiency, followed by the fast and slow lines system with the same speed and the slow train system.
