Platform-independent Infotainment and Digital Cluster Development using Yocto Project

Automotive industry related development activities have already been around for decades and huge communities have grown among an immense variety of applications. However, only a few of the developments have been made using open-source tooling due to security and safety issues. In the recent years, the operating system and framework organizations have overcome some of the aforementioned concerns in order to make open-source tooling more commonplace in automotive industry. In this paper, we present digital cluster and infotainment system software based on Yocto Project, an open-source embedded Linux distribution creation tool. Additionally, we discuss its benefits to some of the challenges in embedded Linux platform development with the hope that such developments will provide a basis for new improvements.
