Abstract:
In this paper, different investigations are presented to increase the overall efficiency of half bridge submodules used in an MMC. The influence of a reduced parasitic inductance on the switching energies as well as an adaptable gate-drive unit is investigated. Furthermore, the thyristor that protects the submodule during DC faults of the converter is substituted by a Press-Pack diode.
