An Approach for Resilience Assessment of SIRES

In recent years, experiences with natural disasters and climate-change driven extreme weather events happening all around the globe have challenged researchers and scientists to address the need for “resilience” in all systems and networks. While urban areas of developed countries have established reliable definitions of resilience, there is no clear method to assess resilience in rural areas. Moreover, over one billion people do not have access to basic needs such as cooking, safe water and electricity. Smart Integrated Renewable Energy System (SIRES) was proposed to provide basic needs to remote rural areas in an effective and sustainable manner. In this paper, an approach to assess the resilience of SIRES is proposed. Primary differences between reliability and resilience are also discussed.
