Investigating Acceptance factors of Clinical Decision Support Systems in a Developing Country Context

Technology adoption is a well-researched stream in the Healthcare Information Systems (HIS) field. However, studies examining the acceptance of HIS, such as Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS), are still limited due to the complicated nature of this systems. CDSS diversifications and its various use in clinical business operations depend on user or decision-maker- factors. CDSS research is a well-recognized area that offers significant decision-support benefits for healthcare managers. This study extends the knowledge of CDSS use and assesses its acceptance by medical practitioners in Saudi Arabia. The research seeks to identify the factors through a qualitative interview technique that influence the acceptance of CDSS in healthcare in order to increase the knowledge as well as to provide more useful information that will contribute to CDSS adoption success. This study is based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and Task-Technology Fit (TTF) model. Additionally, the in depth interviews with general practitioners (GPs) lead to the discovery of additional factors that influence the acceptance of CDSS in Saudi healthcare sector.
