Investigation of Different Claw Pole Traction Machines for 48V Small Electric Vehicles

This paper presents the design and comparison of three different claw-pole machines for application in 48V small fully electric vehicles. The first design is a common CPM, the second design is a hybrid CPM with PMs placed in the inter-claw region, while the third one is a new 3D-excited CPM. The results show that, with the new 3D-excited rotor configuration there is a considerable boost of more than 43% in torque and power compared to other designs.
