Traction battery (40 Ah LiFePO4) recovery after long-term short circuit

Presented paper shows possibilities related to procedure proposal on how to recover damaged lithium-ion battery cell after long-term short-circuit. For this purpose, initially the short-circuit was applied on selected type of traction LiFePO
₄
cell. After it, the visible damage was identified from mechanical and electrical point of view. Next, experimental setup for automated application of proposed recovery method was realized, while battery under test undergoes full-range regeneration procedure. As a verification of the proposed regeneration algorithm, the test of delivered Ah for various discharging currents was realized. Received results have been compared to the new cell, which undergone also the test of delivered Ah. From the final evaluation is seen, that proposed procedure is able to recover damaged cell up to 80% of its full capacity.
