An Analytical Model for a Photovoltaic Module Under Partial Shading Conditions

An analytical model is useful in the study of photovoltaic (PV) module behavior, and is mainly used to demonstrate system control strategies. Conventional equivalent circuit models express the I-V relations of a PV cell, module or array, but are very limited to PV arrays' behaviors under uniform irradiance conditions. This paper proposes a novel PV modeling method that has the capability of predicting terminal current for a partially shaded module based on the extracted shading information. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed modeling method outperforms the existing simulation tools such as PSIM and Simulink in terms of mean accuracy.
