Selective Harmonic Elimination for Light-Rail Transportation Motor Drives using Harris Hawks Algorithm

This paper presents the Harris Hawks Optimization method for harmonic elimination in a traction motor drive based voltage source inverter. The main objective of the pulse-width modulation strategy of selective harmonic elimination (SHE) is to remove low-order harmonics by solving nonlinear equations while satisfying the fundamental aspect. The Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) is applied in this paper to a two-level, three-phase inverter to solve the equations. The algorithm is based on the hunting exercise of the most intelligent creatures in nature by group swarms of harris hawks, and it conducts seven skill procedure with their sensible group strategy. This approach has higher accuracy and convergence probability than the grey wolf optimizer (GWO). MATLAB software is used for HHO, and GWO computation and comparison. Results of simulation indicate the superiority of HHO over GWO in achieving precise switching angles and higher convergence rate. Finally, MATLAB Simulink simulation tests are conducted on a 135 kW traction motor drive platform in the laboratory for verification purposes. Experimental results show that test information demonstrated the exactness of reenactment information and the accomplishment of the HHO technique.
