A Novel Approach for Determining Salient-Pole Synchronous Machine Magnetizing Reactances from On-line Measurements

Within the energy generation framework from hydraulic sources, salient-pole synchronous machines are the main components and considerably influence the behavior of power systems in both transient- and steady-state operating conditions. An accurate knowledge of synchronous machines electrical parameters is crucial for stability analysis and may lead to large outages when inaccurate. This work presents a novel approach for determining the direct- and quadrature-axis magnetizing reactances of salient-pole synchronous machines and for the estimation of the load angle from on-line measurements and an algebraic point-of-view. The simulated results presented validate the accuracy of the proposed methodology.
