An experimental study of the volatilization and diffusion characteristics of benzene leakage in inland water transportation

The transportation of benzene through waterways may cause both safety issues and environmental issues, especially transportation of benzene through inland waterways. Once leaked, a large amount of benzene will be instantaneously released into the environment, which creates a substantial threat to the water environment. This experiment mainly investigated the environmental behaviors after benzene leakage during waterway transportation. The conditions of different leak volumes (20 ml, 30 ml, 50 ml, and 70 ml) and different wind speeds (1.5 m/s, 2.5 m/s, and 5.0 m/s) were set up in the leak simulator to test for changes in benzene concentration in air and water. The concentration changes in benzene in multiphase conditions and the change process of the mass ratio of the gas-phase and liquid-phase benzene were explored, and a prediction formula for the concentration of diffused benzene was developed.
